Oliver T. Schmidt

Principal Investigator

Oliver Schmidt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California San Diego. Before joining UCSD, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar in Mechanical and Civil Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart in 2014.

Edward Lowell

PhD Student

Edward is a Ph.D student at the University of California, San Diego, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. His research interests include computational fluid dynamics and hypersonic flows.

Brandon Yeung

PhD Student

Brandon is a PhD student at UC San Diego. His areas of research include large-eddy simulations of turbulent jets, active flow control for jet noise reduction, and the development of spectral modal decomposition techniques. Prior to joining UCSD, he received his BS in Engineering from Swarthmore College in 2018, and MS in Aeronautics & Astronautics from Stanford University in 2020.

Cong Lin

PhD Student

Cong is a PhD student at UC San Diego. His research focuses on constructing data-driven physics-based models for turbulence, particularly, projection-based reduced-order models with a focus on methods that resolve triadic interactions in the frequency domain. Prior to UCSD, he worked positions as staff scientist at Caltech and research engineer at the University of Illinois Research Park. He received a MS in Aerospace engineering at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a BS in Mechanical & Process engineering at Technical University of Darmstadt.
